Virtual Desktop

How our Virtual Desktops are Better?

We get a variety of questions from our customers related to different aspects of our virtual desktop offerings.  Questions range from what kind of OS they want to how secure the environment is.  Here are some answers and the reasoning behind them.

The most common question is of course on what one can do on a virtual desktop.

Virtual desktops allow you to host your desktop in the cloud; install applications on it and securely access it from anywhere.  We provide two variants- locked-down desktops and dedicated virtual desktops.

Locked-down virtual desktops allow you to perform basic tasks.  They come with few pre-installed applications. Additional applications or custom applications cannot be installed on these desktops without our help.

Dedicated virtual desktops are desktops only for you.  They come with dedicated resources like RAM and vCPU.  You can install applications of your choice and make changes the way you deem fit.  These desktops are highly scalable.  You can add Office 365 ProPlus and get latest MS Office along with OneDrive for Business for each of your user.

Here are some of the questions which may help you understand our offering compared to others.

This is one of the most frequently asked important question. The answer lies in how Microsoft has licensed Windows desktop Operating System. Operating System like Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10 are desktop Operating Systems. They cannot be streamed from a Data-center by any Service Provider. Every Service Provider out there is bound by Microsoft’s Service Provider Licensing Agreement (SPLA). SPLA prohibits service providers to stream Windows Desktop Operating Systems from the shared infrastructure/hardware. If any vendor claims that they can provide you with virtual desktops on Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 then they are violating Microsoft Licensing policies. Having virtual desktops and hosting your data with companies that violate licensing policies has its risks.

The only way any Service Provider including Apps4Rent can provide Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 desktops is by having a full physically dedicated infrastructure for you. For single desktops or even 20 desktops this solution can be very expensive. If you have many users who want to use Windows Desktop Operating System as virtual dedicated desktop, then we will be glad to setup a desktop environment for you and install Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10. The setup will be on a physically separate hardware. Physically separate hardware is expensive and you will need bulk users to reduce the cost impact. In such a scenario-you can bring in your own Windows desktop licenses too.

Most of the applications which work with Microsoft desktop Operating System will also work with Microsoft Windows Server operating systems. If you are facing any trouble installing any application-then feel free to contact our support team via phone/chat or e-mail. They are available 24 x 7.

Different vendors allow you to access desktops via different methods. Most of them use a proprietary technology. Since they use a proprietary technology; you will have to download a separate application/plugin to access the desktops. In many cases, these proprietary applications may not be available for all platforms. This method restricts your choice of devices by which you can access the virtual desktops. Even if available, some proprietary application may not work properly on iPhones; some may have issues on Android devices and so on; Some may give you limited functionalities on different devices when you access the virtual desktop. This can severely hinder your overall experience and prevent you from getting the maximum out of your virtual desktops.

Due to these factors; we did not use any third party proprietary technology. We used Microsoft’s built-in Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). RDP has been used for years by IT professionals to access various Windows machines. Since we use RDP, you can access your virtual desktops from within the browser without any third party plugin. You don’t need to customize or open custom ports to gain access. RDP tool is built into Windows Operating Systems and hence can be accessed from any Windows PC. RDP is something which is available for all types of environments- from Windows Desktops; Mac Machines; Linux Machines to Chromebooks or thin clients. Besides, Microsoft has built RDP apps which can be downloaded from iTunes or PlayStore. When you purchase virtual desktops from us you are not tied to one specific proprietary tool and its features to access your virtual desktop. With our offering you could access it from a browser or from any device without hampering your overall experience.

Our virtual desktop pricing is perhaps the best in the industry as they are fully managed and come with real 24 x 7 support via phone, chat and e-mail. Almost all providers will force you to purchase separate desktops for each user. This has a huge impact on the overall cost when compared to our offering. We do not force you to purchase separate desktops for separate users. You could always add additional users to your current virtual desktop with our offering. This can reduce your costs by more than 50%. To ensure seamless performance for your existing users; we go ahead and add 1 GB of RAM for every new user added to the same virtual desktop owned by you. In other words, if you add 4 users to the same virtual desktop-we add another 4 GB to that virtual desktop. This ensures seamless performance. You do have the option of purchasing single virtual desktops for every user or you could purchase single virtual dedicated desktop and additional users to it and save valuable dollars.

When your purchase virtual desktops from us; you get 24 x 7 support; transparent licensing; more freedom and seamless access to your desktop from a whole lot more devices when compared to others. Besides, you can save a lot by adding more users to an existing virtual desktop rather than purchasing additional virtual desktops. Our offerings do not limit your access to virtual desktops. You can securely access it from any device from anywhere in the world.

Choose Windows 10, Windows 8 or Windows 7 look and feel. For self-installation of applications, pick a dedicated virtual desktop plan. Add Office 365 ProPlus for a low price.
Access your virtual desktop through RDP which is included in Windows OS. RDP equivalents are available for Macs. Or just use an internet browser on your favorite device.
Save as much as 40% for add-on users on your virtual desktop!
