BlackBerry Enterprise Server – BES Hosting
BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BES is a software package that connects to messaging and collaboration applications such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino and synchronizes email, contact, and calendar information between servers, desktop workstations, and mobile devices. Apps4Rent offers low cost virtual servers and desktops that can be used to host different versions of BES. Hosted BES 5 is available from Apps4Rent with our Hosted Exchange 2010 accounts, and supports only BlackBerry devices with OS of 7.0 and lower. Newer BlackBerry devices use Exchange ActiveSync and can work without BES with our Hosted Exchange 2013/2016 and Office 365 plans. For a mix of client devices – old and new BlackBerry devices, iOS, and Android devices – BES12 combined with our dedicated Exchange servers is the right solution. What is BlackBerry Enterprise Server?
BlackBerry Enterprise Server is a middleware software application developed by Research in Motion that gives BlackBerry and a few non-BlackBerry devices a way to connect securely to company email servers, such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, and Novell GroupWise.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server needs to be actively connected to the internet along with the mobile device and mail servers before the magic of instant email, contact, and calendars synchronization happens. For most people with no technical background, this puts hosted BES in the realm of “email”. However, it’s far more versatile software than just giving you email access.
Earlier corporations depended on integrated BlackBerry messaging solutions, with BlackBerry OS on the mobile devices and BlackBerry Enterprise Server. That world worked well till BES 5. Now companies support iOS, Android, and BlackBerry OS devices, and newer BlackBerry devices use a variant of Android OS. For such situations, BES12 is the right product. BES12 or BlackBerry Enterprise Service 12 is a multiplatform EMM solution from BlackBerry that provides comprehensive device, application, and content management with integrated security and connectivity.
Hosted BES Features
BlackBerry Enterprise Server hosting gives mobile corporate employees and IT staff an immense amount of flexibility.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server includes advanced management and support functionality for IT administrators that helps to improve IT productivity, simplify deployments and upgrades and maximize uptime. These features include centralized management to manage applications; schedule updates for application, device and IT policies; and manage user settings and control groups based on 450 IT policies. Hosted BES allows IT administrators to provision security measures such as encryption of data to standards such as Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) or Triple Data Encryption Standard (Triple DES); remote wipe data from a lost or stolen device; and impose rights of third party applications to use the BlackBerry device resources. Hosted BES brings push technology to BlackBerry’s mobile connectivity, so information is automatically updated to your mobile device and synced with your desktop. From email to memos to contacts and tasks, on-the-go corporate employees are never out of touch. BlackBerry Enterprise Server hosting optimizes pushed information so the data can be sent quickly without draining battery life and raising data transfer charges. Your battery lasts longer and your data transfer plan costs less. Hosted BES connects with the corporate hosted Exchange account for remote email search, to search for emails that are only stored on the work desktop. Synchronization with the desktop calendar is easy with BlackBerry Enterprise Server hosting, giving employees the ability to see colleagues’ availability, find open meeting times for team members, forward appointments and see calendar attachments. Hosted BES also provides instant messaging (IM) capabilities. Rather than send messages hoping that the person receives them and is online, hosted BES IM shows who’s available and how they want to be contacted. BlackBerry Enterprise Server hosting supports Enterprise level Exchange accounts.
In summation, while mobile devices help connectivity, hosted BES takes productive employees from the corporate boardroom to client offices and beyond.
