How to Allow QuickBooks Sharing on Multiple Computers?

With the growth of your business, you need to keep up with the growing data requirements including financial and accounting records. At one point, you will find it very difficult to manage it all alone if you have been doing so till date. You may need to upgrade your QuickBooks to higher edition and hire accountants or multiple employees to handle your revenue as well as expenses.

If you have not upgraded your QuickBooks, you might not be able to support multiple users on the same desktop. Enable multi-user mode within QuickBooks to permit more than one user within QuickBooks. This allows multiple users to access the same company file at the same time. This offers increased efficiency and flexibility as three or more users can edit the company file from any location.

Switch to Multi-User Mode

Start by verifying the QuickBooks Desktop version if it supports the multi-user mode. All computers which require access to QuickBooks must install the program. This will create a sharing of QuickBooks files. After the base program is installed, all the computers should be verified if they have the same QuickBooks update.

After you have installed QuickBooks on every computer, the file must be opened to the primary computer. There is a “Switch to Multi-User Mode” option in the “File” menu. The local file locations can be shared from here to different users to allow them to log in. All the edits done by multiple users will be visible to everyone even if they are logging in with different usernames.

Troubleshooting Error

You must first verify if QuickBooks services (QuicBooksDBXX where XX stands for QuickBooks year) and QBFCMonitorService are in the operational mode on your server computer. If something goes wrong, you should get the error ‘QuickBooks multi-user mode not working issue’. The problem can be solved by launching mstsc and restarting the QuickBooksDBXX service under the Recovery tab. If still does not work, get troubleshooting done from an IT expert to help you set up the QuickBooks multi-user mode.
