2. How does Azure Backup work?

Azure Backups work on the policies created by user or default in-built policies. When a VM is running, Azure directs the VM extensions to take complete snapshots of copies of virtual machine disks. This ensures an app-consistent copy of the VM without the need of shutting off the virtual machine.

3. What is the difference between Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery?

Both Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery are important elements of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) strategy. But the main difference lies in their respective functions. Azure Backup is deisgned for data backup and restoration, while ASR helps in the Disaster Recovery (DR) operations.

4. Are the backup costs included in the cost of VM?

No. You must separately for the backup and VM costs. Contact our Azure sales team to know more.

5. Does Azure offer multiple storage options?

Yes. There are primarily two types of replication for keeping your storage available whenenever you need it. The first is locally redundant storage (LRS) which replicates data thrice and stores all the copies inside the same region. The second is geo-redundant storage (GRS) which replicates your data to a region which is geographically far away from the primary region.

6. Which storage option should I opt for?

What you choose as your storage option from either LRS or GRS storage depends on a number of factors.LRS is suitable for local hardware failures which is cost-effective option. GRS is automatic option which is an expensive option than LRS storage, but is reliable and durable in case of outage in the same region.

7. Are standard SSD-managed disks supported by Azure Backups?

Yes. The standard SSD-managed disks are supported by Azure Backups.

8. How many virtual machines can be accomodated with a similar backup policy?

There can a maximum of 100 virtual machines (VMs) that can be accomodated with a similar backup policy. If you have more than 100 VMs, you must create multiple backup policies. The policies can have the same schedule or different schedule.
