How to Restore Data on BlackBerry\u00a0 from a Backup?
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scenarios for Reference Purposes:<\/span><\/strong> Please note that these scenarios are only for understanding the type of issues which this document might be able to address.<\/p>\n

Scenario 1:<\/span><\/strong> I have wiped my BlackBerry device; and now I want to restore the backup which I took before wiping the device.<\/p>\n

Scenario 2:<\/span><\/strong> Restoring from an earlier back-up of your device due to data loss or corruption.<\/p>\n

Please follow these steps to restore a backup of the data for your BlackBerry Device using BlackBerry Desktop Manager.<\/p>\n

To restore all the data from a backup file to a BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following steps:<\/p>\n

  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to a computer that has BlackBerry\u00ae Desktop Software installed.<\/li>\n
  2. Open the BlackBerry\u00ae Desktop Manager<\/li>\n
  3. Click Backup and Restore.<\/li>\n
  4. Click Restore.<\/li>\n
  5. Navigate to the backup file that contains the data to be restored to the BlackBerry smartphone.<\/li>\n
  6. Double-click the backup (.ipd) file.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    To restore specific databases in the backup file to a BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following steps:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to\u00a0the computer.<\/li>\n
    2. Open the\u00a0BlackBerry Desktop Manager.<\/li>\n
    3. Click Backup and Restore.<\/li>\n
    4. Click Advanced.<\/li>\n
    5. On the File menu, click Open.<\/li>\n
    6. Double-click the backup (.ipd) file.<\/li>\n
    7. In the Computer Databases section, select the database or databases to restore, and then click the right arrow button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Note: If the right arrow button is unavailable, then read the following details<\/p>\n

      By default, BlackBerry Desktop Manager save backup files to the user’s Documents folder.\u00a0 If the files are not available then the location was changed by the user at some time.<\/p>\n

        \n
      • For Windows XP, the\u00a0My Documents folder path is\u00a0C:\\Documents and Settings\\<username>\\My Documents\\<\/li>\n
      • For\u00a0Windows Vista, the\u00a0Documents folder path is\u00a0C:\\Users\\<username>\\Documents\\<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        By default, backup files are saved with the following file names unless the file name is manually changed:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • Backup files created by manually performing a backup through Backup and Restore: Backup-(YYYY-MM-DD).ipd<\/li>\n
        • Backup files created automatically when actions are performed using the application loader tool (if enabled):\u00a0 LoaderBackup-(YYYY-MM-DD).ipd<\/li>\n
        • Backup files created automatically if periodic automatic backups are enabled in the backup and restore tool options: AutoBackup-(YYYY-MM-DD).ipd<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Note: “YYYY-MM-DD” represents the date the backup file was created in Year-Month-Date format.<\/p>\n

          NOTE:\u00a0\u00a0 If\u00a0the BlackBerry smartphone is associated with a BlackBerry\u00ae Enterprise Server\u00a0version 4.0 to 5.0, and\u00a0the\u00a0user account associated with the BlackBerry smartphone is set for automatic wireless backup, the right arrow button (>>) will be unavailable while attempting to manually restore most databases.<\/p>\n

          To restore these databases manually, complete the following steps:<\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Delete the Desktop [SYNC] service book from\u00a0the BlackBerry smartphone by completing the following steps:\n
              \n
            1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone,\u00a0click Options > Advanced Options > Service Book.<\/li>\n
            2. Highlight Desktop [SYNC], display the menu and click Delete.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
            3. Connect\u00a0the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.<\/li>\n
            4. Restore the databases using the steps to restore specific databases in the backup file to\u00a0a BlackBerry smartphone listed above.<\/li>\n
            5. When the database or databases\u00a0are restored, click Options > Advanced Options > Service Book on\u00a0the BlackBerry smartphone.<\/li>\n
            6. Display the menu and click Undelete. The Desktop [SYNC] service book is restored.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
