AT&T BlackBerry Technology
AT&T BlackBerry services use GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) technology. More than 3 billion people and approximately 80% of the world’s mobile market use GSM technology. In addition, GSM provides coverage to over 212 countries and territories. While CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology, used by wireless carriers such as Sprint and Verizon, is somewhat faster, GSM technology has a larger global coverage area.
AT&T BlackBerry Phones
BlackBerry AT&T phones range from those that are 3G or Edge enabled for high-speed access to Wi-Fi and/or GPS. For individuals who talk a lot, you can choose a compact BlackBerry, or one with a full keyboard for heavy text and email users. Phone models include:
- 3G BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700 (with GPS and Wi-Fi)
- 3G BlackBerry® Bold 9000 (with GPS and Wi-Fi)
- BlackBerry Curve 8520 (with GPS and Wi-Fi)
- BB Curve™ 8900 (with GPS and Wi-Fi)
- BB Curve™ 8310 (with GPS)
- BB Curve 8320 (with GPS and Wi-Fi)
- BlackBerry Pearl™ 8110 (with GPS)
For new accounts with a $30/month data service plan and 2-year contract, AT&T BlackBerry phones range in cost from free to $199.99. Note that the price plans of wireless providers change from time to time and may include other charges; therefore, it is recommended that the AT&T website be consulted for the plan options.
AT&T BlackBerry service plans can be bought separately for voice, data and messaging or as bundles. However, some data plans require a compatible wireless voice plan and vice versa. As well, some data plans can’t be used with BES, while others include BES. To figure out the best data plan or voice/data/messaging bundle for your corporation’s particular needs, it’s best to first outline what those needs are.
Will your employees be talking more often than messaging? Will some need more access to your corporate network than others? Once you figure out your corporation’s needs, we recommend contacting one of the AT&T business solution specialists due to the various restrictions, clauses and area availabilities. Discuss the option of using Apps4Rent’s hosted Exchange and BES plans for your corporate intranet, and what AT&T BlackBerry plan would work best for this configuration.
